Cost
Why won't you give me a fixed price before seeing photos?
Because a price bracket only means something if the graft count attached to it matches what you genuinely need. Quoting before assessment either sells you grafts you will not receive or pushes the estimate up to justify the bracket. We quote after looking at your hair loss pattern and donor area.

What is included in the package price?
Typically: consultation and analysis, pre-operative health checks, the procedure under local anaesthesia, hotel for the standard stay, VIP transfers, post-operative medication and care products, the first wash and aftercare instruction, and follow-up support after you fly home. Confirm exact inclusions in writing on your own quote.

What is not included in the price?
Flights, extra hotel nights beyond the standard stay, a companion's travel costs, meals outside what the hotel provides, optional add-on treatments such as PRP, and any long-term medication your surgeon may recommend.

Does Afro-textured hair cost more to transplant?
Extraction takes longer, because each curved follicle has to be followed rather than pulled, and that is real surgical time. You will also read that curl compensates for it — that coiled hair covers more scalp per follicle, so fewer grafts achieve the same look. We looked for a study measuring that and did not find one, so we do not price on it and we do not tell you it works in your favour.

Is the cheapest hair transplant quote safe?
Below a certain price something is being cut — usually surgeon involvement, session time, or the number of patients handled per day. On Afro-textured hair, where extraction is slower and technically harder, a rock-bottom price often signals a clinic treating the case as routine when it is not.

Travelling, and the day itself
Do US citizens need a visa to travel to Turkey for a hair transplant?
Since 1 January 2024, US passport holders can enter Turkey visa-free for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Your passport must be valid at least six months beyond your stay. There is no visa on arrival, and entry rules are set by governments — verify current requirements with official sources before booking.

Which Istanbul airport should I fly into?
Our clinic is in Ataşehir on the Asian side of Istanbul, so Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) is considerably closer than Istanbul Airport (IST), which is on the European side and requires crossing the city. If your routing allows a choice, ask us before booking.

How long does the procedure day take?
Most of the day. Hairline design and planning come first, then local anaesthesia, extraction and placement. Afro-textured cases often take longer than comparable straight-hair cases because extraction cannot be rushed without cutting through curved follicles.

What will I look like on the flight home?
Expect redness, small scabs across the recipient area, and some swelling that can migrate toward the forehead and eyes in the first days. Pack a loose top you do not pull over your head, and ask your team when a loose hood or soft hat is safe to wear.

Can I travel alone for a hair transplant?
Most patients do. Airport, hotel and clinic transfers are included, and you will have a coordinator you can reach directly. If you prefer to bring someone, tell us in advance — their flights and share of accommodation are not included in the package.

When is the first hair wash after the procedure?
Typically the day after surgery, at the clinic. It is done deliberately while you watch, because how you wash your scalp over the following days affects whether grafts stay in place. You go home with the products and written instructions.

Aftercare and healing
Is it normal for transplanted hair to fall out?
Yes. Most transplanted hairs shed between roughly two and eight weeks after surgery. What sheds is the hair shaft — the transplanted follicle stays in place and re-enters a growth cycle. Some surrounding non-transplanted hair may also shed temporarily; that is shock loss and it generally recovers.

When can I braid my hair again after a hair transplant?
Grafts anchor at roughly two weeks, but graft security and tension tolerance are different questions. Braids, cornrows, locs and tight ponytails apply the sustained pull that causes traction alopecia in the first place. Ask your team for timing specific to your case, and abandon any style that pulls, stings or leaves the scalp sore.

When will I see the final result?
Twelve months is the point at which a result can be fairly judged, with density and texture continuing to mature to around eighteen months. At six months you are typically seeing roughly half to two-thirds of the eventual outcome.

Will my transplanted hair keep its curl?
Transplanted hair can initially grow straighter or with a looser pattern than the surrounding hair, with the curl typically establishing as it matures over the following months. It is a common early worry that usually resolves with time.

What are the warning signs of infection after a hair transplant?
Spreading redness, an area hot to the touch, pus or discharge, a bad smell, fever, pain that had been improving and then worsens, or a wound that opens. Contact your team promptly rather than waiting for a scheduled check-in. Infection is uncommon but it is the complication where delay costs grafts.

Can I wear a durag or wave cap after a hair transplant?
Anything that presses, drags or creates friction across the grafts is a problem in the early weeks. Ask specifically about the headwear you normally wear and when it is safe to resume, rather than relying on a general instruction not written with your routine in mind.

Reading before-and-after photos
How can I tell if a hair transplant before-and-after photo is misleading?
Compare the lighting, camera angle, hair length and whether the hair is wet or dry in both photos. If those differ, some of the apparent improvement comes from presentation rather than surgery. Also look for a published graft count, technique and months post-op.

Why does hair length matter so much in Afro hair transplant photos?
Tightly coiled hair shows far more scalp when cropped short and covers far more when grown out. A short "before" against a grown-out "after" can look like a dramatic density change even without surgery, so compare photos at similar hair lengths.

How many months after surgery is a fair result to judge?
Twelve months is the honest checkpoint, and eighteen months is better. At six months you are typically seeing around 60% of the final result, so a gallery built mainly on six-month photos is showing the flattering part of the growth curve.

Should I ask to see the donor area too?
Yes. Most galleries only show the recipient area that improved. The back and sides are where over-harvesting shows up as visible thinning, and on Afro-textured hair — where extraction is technically harder — that is exactly where a rushed procedure becomes obvious.

Reviews, and talking to past patients
How can I tell if a hair transplant clinic's reviews are genuine?
Check when reviews were posted — a cluster in the same fortnight is a pattern rather than a coincidence. Look for specific detail such as graft counts, technique and timeline rather than generic praise. Read the negative reviews and how the clinic replied. Be sceptical of a flawless score, and check whether the platform itself has published an enforcement notice on the business profile.

Why are reviews written soon after surgery less useful?
A review written days after the procedure describes hospitality — transfers, hotel, staff. Those matter but they are not the result. Reviews written at twelve months or later, describing how the hair actually looks, carry far more weight.

Can I speak to a former patient before booking?
Ask. A written review is a weak substitute for hearing from someone whose hair was like yours before they started. Request contact with a past patient with a comparable curl pattern and stage of hair loss — and ask every clinic you are comparing for the same.

One to three a day on average, against a maximum daily capacity of ten — those are the clinic's own two figures. The average is the one that affects your day: the fewer people booked alongside you, the more of a procedure a surgeon can be present for rather than supervising a production line. It is a fair thing to ask before you book a date.

What photos should I send for a hair transplant assessment?
The top of your head looking down, your hairline from the front, and the back and sides — the donor area, which is what actually determines what is possible. Use natural light where you can, with dry hair and no product, since wet or producted hair shows more scalp than you really have.

What is the time difference between Istanbul and the US?
Istanbul runs 7 to 8 hours ahead of US Eastern time depending on whether US daylight saving is in effect, and roughly 10 to 11 hours ahead of the West Coast. If you message in the evening from the States you are messaging our small hours, so a reply may arrive while you are asleep.

Do I have to use WhatsApp to contact the clinic?
No. WhatsApp is the fastest route and the only one that takes photos, but it is operated by Meta rather than by us, and some people would rather not route health details through it. Email and the contact form both work.

Will I get a price before sending photos?
No, and you should be wary of anyone who gives you one. A price quoted before your donor area and hair loss pattern have been assessed is a guess presented as an offer. You get a written quote with the graft estimate and technique it is based on after an assessment.

- Why keloids form more readily in some people than others is not established. The difference itself is well documented; the mechanism behind it is not.Stated as unresolved in Dermatologic Clinics 1988
- How much more often follicles are cut during extraction in tightly coiled hair than in straight hair.
