Afro Hair Lab

Interactive tools for understanding Afro-textured hair

A growing set of honest, hands-on tools — built on the same evidence-first standard as the rest of this site. Explore how hair works, on your own terms. No tool here diagnoses you or decides anything for you; that is what an in-person examination is for.

LiveBefore You BookSix questions about what you can see and feel, and the questions worth putting to a clinic afterwards — this one or any other. It refuses to diagnose or to guess a graft count.Open →LiveHair Pattern AssessmentMove through the 3A–4C spectrum, watch the follicle beneath the skin, compare two patterns — then find your own.Open →LiveFollicle Curvature ExplorerRaise the curvature and watch a straight tool cut across a curved follicle — then see how following the curve fixes it.Open →LiveDonor Density ExplorerMove a finite donor supply into a thinning area and watch the trade-off — why a transplant redistributes, and never creates, hair.Open →LiveThe Hairline DecisionMove a hairline, change its edge, then ask the question that decides whether it still works in ten years — what caused the loss.Open →LiveBefore & After InterpreterSee how lighting, angle and styling can make the same hair look thick or thin — so no before/after can fool you.Open →LiveThe Tension ModelPull a hairline tight, hold it there, then take the tension out — and see which part of the damage comes back and which does not.Open →LiveScarring vs Non-ScarringA crown from above: spread a scarring loss, choose whether it is still active, then try placing grafts into it.Open →LiveWhere Did It Start?Four questions about your own hair loss, sorted into the pattern they describe and the one question worth taking to a clinic. It shows its reasoning and refuses to diagnose.Open →LiveGraft Planning VisualizerDraw a thinning patch and watch the graft count appear — or start from a number and see the patch it covers. The sum, not a quote.Open →

How these are calculated

Each of these publishes what it computes, what it assumes, and what it deliberately will not tell you. A tool that cannot show its working is a graphic, not an instrument.

What every tool in the Lab promises

It teaches, it doesn’t diagnose

Every module is built to help you understand something — never to hand you a verdict a clinician has to make in person.

Every factual claim is sourced

What we state as fact links to the evidence behind it; what we can’t prove yet, we don’t claim. The same register backs the whole site.

Nothing is measured about you

The tools run in your browser: no photo is uploaded, and no answer you give one is recorded. We do count anonymous events — page views, clicks, scroll depth — with no cookie, no identifier and nothing from any form. The privacy policy sets out exactly what that is.
